Let's talk about 'The Birds' in 4K. First off, the visual upgrade is stunning. The clarity and color depth make those iconic bird attacks even more terrifying. Streaming has come a long way, but this physical copy delivers a consistently crisp image that does justice to Hitchcock's masterpiece.
Now, the not-so-great part: Universal re-released this with a new 'Collectible Pop Art Series' cover (which looks cool, I admit), but didn't bother improving the actual content. No new transfer, no deleted scenes - it's essentially the same 2014 Blu-ray repackaged. As someone who collects these, that stings a bit.
The lack of 'Resume Movie' function is particularly annoying when you're interrupted mid-viewing (and let's be honest - with those intense scenes, you might need breaks!). The digital copy that was included in the 2014 version? Gone now. Though to be fair, that offer expired back in 2016 anyway.
Here's who should buy this: If you're building your Hitchcock collection and don't own any version yet, grab it - it's still one of his most visually striking films. But if you already have the 2014 Blu-ray? Save your money unless you're really into that pop art cover.
The film itself remains brilliant - those unsettling silences, Tippi Hedren's iconic performance, and that famously ambiguous ending still pack a punch. Just know you're getting the same great movie without meaningful technical upgrades from previous releases.
