Let me start by saying this: if you're a film buff, the Three Colours Trilogy in 4K Ultra HD by Curzon Collection is an absolute must-have. The moment I unboxed it, I could feel the care put into this release – from the sturdy packaging to the gorgeous artwork.
The video quality is stunning. Watching 'Blue' in 4K was like seeing it for the first time again – those deep blue filters and Juliette Binoche's heartbreaking performance hit even harder. The subtle color grading that Kieslowski was famous for? It pops like never before.
Now let's talk extras because wow, Curzon went all out. We're talking art cards, postcards, a dedicated extras Blu-ray, and a booklet that's actually worth reading (not just filler material). It's clear this wasn't just slapped together for a quick cash grab.
The packaging deserves its own shoutout. The rigid cardboard sleeve protects what's already a well-built box – though I'll admit, it does feel a bit excessive when you're just trying to get to the movies.
Here's where it gets really interesting compared to other releases: while Criterion's version might have similar video quality (unless you've got eagle eyes), this Curzon edition wins hands-down on presentation and supplementary materials. It's the complete package for true fans.
A word of warning though – check your language options carefully. Some buyers were surprised to find portions in Polish with only English subtitles. For me personally? That authenticity added to the experience, but I can see how it might frustrate some viewers.
Watching these films in this format reminded me why they're considered classics. 'Blue' remains devastatingly beautiful, 'White' is criminally underrated dark comedy gold, and while 'Red' might be my least favorite of the three (controversial opinion, I know), Jean-Louis Trintignant's performance alone makes it essential viewing.
Bottom line? This is quite possibly the definitive home release of Kieslowski's masterpiece trilogy. Whether you're discovering these films for the first time or revisiting them like an old friend, this set does them justice in every way possible.
