Let me start by saying the Echo Show 5 is a nifty little device that packs a punch. I've been using it as my bedside companion for months now, and that clock display at night? Absolute game-changer when you're half-asleep squinting for the time.
The setup process was smoother than I expected. The German guide included is actually helpful (shocking for tech manuals!) with clear step-by-step instructions. Within minutes, I had Alexa playing my morning playlist and showing family photos like a digital picture frame.
Where it really shines is smart home control. Saying "Alexa, turn off the lights" while cozy in bed never gets old. The screen adds visual confirmation that your command worked - something regular Echos can't offer. IFTTT integration opens up some creative automation possibilities too.
Now for the not-so-great parts... Some features promised in the manual don't seem to exist on my unit either. There's definitely some disconnect between what's advertised and actual functionality. And yes, the Alexa app does mysteriously update in the background - sometimes changing settings without warning.
The camera quality is just okay for video calls, and the speaker won't replace your proper sound system. But for its compact size and price point? It's become my go-to for quick weather checks, timers while cooking, and yes - that glorious illuminated clock at 3 AM when insomnia strikes.
