Let me start by saying this: Throw Throw Burrito is the most chaotic, hilarious, and unexpectedly strategic party game I've ever played. Imagine UNO had a baby with dodgeball, and that baby was raised by the creators of Exploding Kittens – that's this game in a nutshell.
The moment you open the box, you're greeted with two gloriously squishy foam burritos that somehow become the center of everyone's attention. I've seen grown adults turn into giggling maniacs over these things. The cards are vibrant and whimsical (classic Oatmeal style), but don't let the cute artwork fool you – this game gets intense.
Gameplay is deceptively simple: collect matching sets of cards while staying alert for burrito battles. When someone plays certain cards, all hell breaks loose. Suddenly you're diving behind couches or engaging in dramatic Wild West-style burrito duels (back-to-back, three paces, FIRE!). My family still talks about the time my aunt took a direct burrito hit to the face during Thanksgiving dinner.
What makes this game special is how it transforms any gathering. We've played it at family reunions (ages 7 to 70 all equally competitive), camping trips (those burritos make great tent markers afterward), and even work events (nothing breaks office tension like pelting your boss with a foam burrito). Just be warned – clear your breakables first. Our coffee table still bears the scars of an especially enthusiastic round.
The only downside? Those poor burritos take serious abuse. One of ours split after particularly vigorous gameplay (RIP little guy). Also, with just two burritos, larger groups might want to consider the expanded version for maximum mayhem.
Whether you're looking to spice up game night or need an icebreaker that guarantees laughter, Throw Throw Burrito delivers. It's become our most-requested party game – easy to learn but impossible to play just once. Just be prepared for sore cheeks (from smiling) and maybe some light bruising (from those surprisingly accurate burrito throws).
