Let me tell you, this Astro PR14 air riveter is an absolute beast! After struggling with manual riveters for years, this pneumatic wonder feels like cheating. The first time I used it to install 1/4" rivets on a truck frame, I nearly cried happy tears - no more arm fatigue after just a dozen rivets!
The tool comes with five nose pieces (3/32" to 1/4"), but I've mostly used the 1/4" attachment for heavy-duty projects. What blows my mind is how it handles awkward angles - I recently did overhead work in tight spaces where a manual tool would've been impossible. Just 2-3 trigger pulls per rivet and boom - perfect setting every time.
Some real talk though: The plastic catch cup is flimsy (keeps falling off during intense jobs), and you MUST maintain it religiously. My routine: WD-40 on the jaws, two drops of tool oil in the air inlet before each use. Skip this and you're asking for trouble. Also, remember to flip it upside down after each rivet so the mandrels drop properly into the catcher.
Surprisingly, it works great even with my ancient pancake compressor. For big jobs (200+ rivets), the compressor barely breaks a sweat at 120 PSI. The tool itself feels solid - no cheap plastic parts here. Pro tip: Test it immediately when you get it - there was apparently a bad batch that shipped with factory defects.
Bottom line? If you do serious riveting work, this $100 tool will save your hands, your time, and probably your sanity. Just maintain it well, and it'll be your new favorite shop buddy.
