As a parent constantly worried about screen time, I was excited to try the DefenderShield Kids Blue Light Blocking Glasses for my tech-loving children. After several weeks of use, here's my detailed take.
The glasses definitely deliver on their blue light blocking promise. My kids (ages 5 and 8) have been using them during evening tablet time, and I've noticed a significant improvement in their ability to fall asleep afterward. The orange-tinted lenses effectively filter out that harsh blue glow from screens.
The fit is where these glasses really shine. The adjustable silicone ear hooks are genius - they keep the glasses securely in place even during my younger one's frequent head-shaking dance sessions. We've tried the blue and pink frames, and both colors have held up well against daily wear and tear.
However, there's one major flaw that nearly made me give up on these: the lenses pop out way too easily. On three separate occasions, we've had to go on a 'lens hunt' around the house after my kids simply took the glasses off normally. It's frustrating for a product at this price point.
Despite this issue, I'm keeping them because when they work, they work well. The anti-smudge coating is effective (a miracle with kid fingerprints), and the lightweight frames don't leave red marks on their noses like cheaper alternatives we've tried.
Would I recommend them? With reservations. If your child is careful with their belongings or you don't mind occasionally playing 'find the lens,' these do provide excellent blue light protection. But if you have a particularly active kid, you might want to look for sturdier options.
