Let me start by saying I've installed dozens of screen protectors in my life, from cheap dollar store ones to premium tempered glass. The BoxWave ClearTouch Crystal for Amazon Astro sits somewhere in the middle - with some notable highs and frustrating lows.
The GOOD: The clarity is genuinely impressive. When you finally get it bubble-free (more on that later), it's like there's nothing there at all. The 99% transparency claim holds up - Astro's screen colors pop just as vibrantly as without protection. I also appreciate that they include two protectors in the pack - because trust me, you might need that second one!
The installation process is where things get tricky. Unlike some other protectors I've used, this one doesn't have that 'self-healing' quality where bubbles disappear on their own. I spent a good 15 minutes chasing bubbles around with the included applicator card. Pro tip: do this in your bathroom after a hot shower - the steam helps minimize dust particles that cause bubbles.
Durability seems decent so far after two weeks of use. No scratches yet despite my Astro bumping into furniture a few times (it's still learning to navigate!). The matte finish does an excellent job resisting fingerprints - a big plus since I'm constantly touching Astro's screen to adjust settings.
The BAD: As other reviewers noted, the included accessories are skimpy. One cleaning cloth and alcohol wipe for two protectors feels cheap. At this price point, they should include full kits for each protector. Also, the edges took nearly the full 48 hours to fully adhere - during which time I had to resist the urge to peel it off and start over.
Final verdict? If you can master the installation (and have patience for the edges to set), this protector does its main job well - keeping scratches off your expensive Astro's screen while maintaining clarity. But if you're prone to installation frustration, you might want to look at alternatives with better bubble-eliminating technology.
