Let me start by saying this 4K restoration of Carlito's Way is STUNNING. The neon-lit 70s New York streets pop with newfound clarity, and Al Pacino's pores practically sweat in ultra-HD during those intense close-ups. The HDR makes night scenes - which this film has plenty of - incredibly detailed.
The included Blu-ray played flawlessly on my PS5 (region-free as advertised), though one user mentioned freezing issues during the climax - I didn't experience this, but it's worth noting. The Japanese dub and subtitles are indeed present despite being a UK edition, which was a pleasant surprise for international collectors like myself.
Now the downside: while the film itself is a De Palma masterpiece (that nightclub shootout in 4K? Chef's kiss), there are ZERO special features. For a premium 4K release, I expected at least some behind-the-scenes footage or commentary tracks. The packaging also feels disappointingly basic for collectors - just a standard plastic case.
Watching this at home with proper surround sound? Absolute magic. The remastered audio makes every gunshot ricochet through your living room. Just be warned - this isn't family movie night material. That prison shower scene in crisp 4K might scar your kids forever.
Final verdict? Must-have for De Palma/Pacino fans despite barebones extras. The visual upgrade alone justifies double-dipping if you own older versions.
