Just got my Shop Fox W1666 dust collector and the POWERTEC hose reducer, and man, what a mixed bag of emotions!
First off, assembly was... an adventure. The manual said 14 bolts but only 6 showed up? Classic. Luckily, the base plate had threaded holes so crisis somewhat averted. Had to MacGyver some solutions for the impeller housing misalignment though – drill bits and spare bolts to the rescue!
Suction power? Absolutely savage. This thing yanks planer shavings from my hand like a vacuum-powered T-Rex. Noise level? Well, let’s just say ear protection is mandatory unless you enjoy tinnitus as background music.
The POWERTEC reducer is a slick little adapter – ABS plastic feels sturdy, and it bridges my 4” system to my shop vac seamlessly. No leaks, no fuss (just don’t try forcing it onto non-hose ports – learned that the hard way).
Biggest gripe: mobility. Those flimsy bag support arms bend if you breathe on them wrong. Pro tip: push the base with your foot like you’re kicking away bad decisions.
Final verdict? 4.5/5 stars (docked half a star for the bolt shortage and arm strength). If you need industrial-grade dust annihilation and don’t mind playing mechanic, this duo’s worth every penny.
