Let me start by saying I really wanted to love these placemats. The concept is brilliant - reusable, eco-friendly cotton mats that come on a convenient roll. But after testing them for two weeks, I've got some mixed feelings.
The good first: They absolutely deliver on the aesthetic promise. The soft cotton feels luxurious under plates, and the Christmas Jumper pattern adds festive charm to my dining table. I used them for both casual family dinners and a holiday party where guests kept complimenting how 'fancy' they looked.
However, the paper towel comparison in reviews isn't entirely wrong. While marketed as washable up to 6 times, mine started fraying after just 3 washes (cold water, gentle cycle). They do tear off the roll easily... sometimes too easily when you're trying to separate just one.
The size is generous (fits chargers as claimed), but they wrinkle terribly after washing. Ironing helps but defeats the 'convenience' factor. For $25 per roll, I expected more durability - these feel more like semi-reusable than truly reusable.
Final verdict? Gorgeous for special occasions where you'll use them once or twice, but don't expect years of use. If you're looking for truly sustainable options, invest in traditional cloth placemats instead.
