Just set up my Cudy LT500 outdoor router at my mountain cabin and wow, what a mixed bag! Here's the real deal after a month of use.
First, the good stuff:
- Setup was stupid easy - popped in my Mint Mobile SIM and was online in minutes (yes, the default WiFi password really is 'password'!)
- Signal boost is insane! Getting 20dB better than my phone thanks to those big antennas. Mounted it high on a pole and now get solid 55Mbps down.
- The PoE feature is clutch - ran it through 50ft of CAT6 cable no problem. Perfect for getting the router to that sweet signal spot.
Now the not-so-great:
- That 'weatherproof' claim? Yeah right. Had to add O-rings and electrical tape to keep moisture out. Feels like they cheaped out on seals.
- Only CAT4 LTE feels ancient in 2023. Not future-proof at all when everyone's moving to 5G.
- Had to jump through hoops with IMEI cloning to make it work with my carrier (bought a $30 burner phone just for this).
Final verdict? If you need internet where there isn't any, this gets the job done despite its flaws. Just don't expect flagship performance or build quality.
