Let me start by saying these U-tec smart plugs are solid performers once you get past the initial setup hurdles. I've been using them for about a month now to control my lamps and coffee maker, and they've been reliable day in and day out.
The good stuff first: The Wi-Fi mesh technology really works. I have three of these plugs spread across my house, and they maintain a stable connection much better than some other brands I've tried. Voice control through Alexa is snappy - saying "Alexa, turn on the living room lamp" works instantly every time.
Where these plugs shine is in their scheduling features. Being able to set my coffee maker to turn on automatically 10 minutes before my alarm goes off has been life-changing. The runtime stats in the app are also super helpful for tracking energy usage.
Now for the not-so-great parts: The setup process is needlessly complicated. Having to download the U-Home app (and create an account with phone verification) before you can use them with Alexa feels like an unnecessary extra step. It took me about 15 frustrating minutes to figure out how to properly link them with Google Home.
The 2.4GHz-only limitation might be annoying if your router combines bands automatically (I had to temporarily disable 5GHz during setup). And while the plugs themselves work great, the U-Home app interface looks dated compared to competitors.
Bottom line? If you can power through the initial setup headaches, these are excellent budget-friendly smart plugs that deliver where it counts - reliable operation and useful features. Just be prepared for some app-related frustrations along the way.
