Okay, so I just finished The Silent Patient and WOW. This book messed with my head in the best possible way. I literally couldn't put it down - read it in two sittings and lost sleep over it (no regrets).
The premise is crazy intriguing: famous artist Alicia shoots her husband and then never speaks another word. Enter Theo, this psychotherapist who's determined to crack her silence. The way the story unfolds between Theo's POV and Alicia's diary entries had me constantly flipping back pages like 'wait what?!'
That TWIST though?! I pride myself on usually guessing plot twists, but this one completely blindsided me. When everything clicked into place around 80% through, I actually gasped out loud (my cat looked very concerned).
What I loved most was how Michaelides plays with perception - making you question everything you thought you knew. The psychological depth is chef's kiss, though fair warning: it gets pretty dark at points.
The ending left me staring at the wall for a good 10 minutes processing everything. It's that rare book that actually earns its hype. Already planning to reread it to catch all the clues I missed!
