Let me start by saying this SSR-60DD is a beast when it works properly. I've been using it to control a high-power DC motor in my custom CNC setup, and when wired correctly, it handles the job surprisingly well.
The first surprise came during installation - the wiring diagram is completely backwards! Like other users, I initially thought I got a defective unit when current flowed without input. After some frustrating troubleshooting, I discovered reversing the load and supply wires made it work perfectly. Definitely a weird quirk for what's supposed to be a straightforward component.
Performance-wise, it's been handling my 40A load without breaking a sweat (literally - the heat sink stays remarkably cool). However, I wouldn't push it to its claimed 60A rating based on other users' melting experiences at lower loads. The epoxy encapsulation feels sturdy, and I appreciate the silent operation compared to mechanical relays.
One major plus is the snubber circuit protection - it's saved my setup from several voltage spikes that would have fried cheaper components. Just be aware this isn't a set-it-and-forget-it device - double check your wiring and maybe derate it by 20% for safety.
