Just installed this SS3 float switch as a backup for my attic HVAC unit, and I’m pretty impressed so far. Here’s the breakdown:
The Good: Super easy to install—just clipped it onto the drain pan (though my pan’s thick rim required a little DIY drilling). The stainless steel bracket feels sturdy, and the magnetic reed switch reacts FAST—like, ‘barely-touches-water’ fast. Love that it shuts things down before my ceiling becomes a water feature.
The Quirks: Wish the bracket was adjustable for thicker pan edges (had to improvise with a bolt). Also, while it works great as a secondary fail-safe, I wouldn’t rely on it as the *only* line of defense—it’s lightweight but not indestructible.
Verdict: For $15-ish? Totally worth it. Paired with my smart leak sensor, I can finally stop paranoid-checking the attic. 4/5 stars—would be 5 if the bracket fit all pans out of the box.
