Okay, let's get this straight - I'm not your typical war movie buff. But Full Metal Jacket? Damn, it hits different.
The steelbook packaging is slick as hell - that metallic sheen makes my shelf look 10x cooler. The 4K transfer? Crisper than Hartman's insults during boot camp scenes.
First half had me laughing uncomfortably at the drill instructor's creative profanity. Second half left me staring at my wall for 30 minutes after it ended. Classic Kubrick mind games.
Special features are decent but honestly? I just keep rewatching that bathroom scene with Private Pyle. Vincent D'Onofrio deserved an Oscar for making me feel physically ill with his performance.
Digital copy redeemed fine though I'll never watch this on my phone - feels disrespectful to Kubrick's framing. This demands a proper screen and surround sound.
Worth every penny even if it did give me weird dreams about marching cadences for a week. Semper Fi or whatever.
