As someone who grew up in a law enforcement family, I was really excited to dive into 'Second Chance' – hoping for gritty, authentic day-to-day cop life details from my hometown area.
The storytelling itself isn't bad – you can tell the author has real experience. But wow, the editing is ROUGH. I kept stumbling over misspelled words ('Fourty' instead of 'Forty', really?) and weird punctuation that yanked me out of the story constantly.
There are some genuinely interesting moments about patrol routines, but they get repetitive fast. How many times do we need to hear about refueling the squad car? After the third detailed gas station stop, I started skimming those parts.
It's frustrating because buried under all the typos and repetition, there's a decent memoir trying to get out. With proper editing and some tighter storytelling focus, this could've been great for true crime/cop drama fans like me.
