Just got my hands on the 4K UHD version of this wuxia masterpiece, and wow—what a visual treat! The upgrade from my old Blu-ray is night and day. The film grain is preserved (hello, texture!), and the colors pop like never before. Zhang Ziyi’s costumes? Stunning. The bamboo forest fight? *Chef’s kiss.*
BUT… the audio is basically identical to the old release. Like, why? For a film with such iconic music and sound design (those drums!), this feels like a missed opportunity. My surround system deserved better.
Extras are solid though—five deleted scenes (!) and glossy behind-the-scenes photos. Worth it for the visuals alone if you’re a fan, but temper expectations for audio upgrades. Also, heads-up: French subs/audio claims seem dodgy based on other reviews.
