Let me start by saying this artificial grass rug has been a game-changer for my apartment-living pup. The 2.2ft x 4ft size fits perfectly on my balcony, creating a convenient potty area between walks. What really impressed me was how quickly my dog adjusted to it - no accidents during the transition period!
The pre-drilled drainage holes (which some reviewers claim are missing - more on that later) work like magic. After my golden retriever does his business, I simply hose it down and watch the liquid disappear through the holes. It dries surprisingly fast under the sun, ready for the next use within an hour.
Now for the not-so-great parts: The grass height could definitely be taller. At about 0.5 inches, it doesn't look super realistic up close (though from my second-floor balcony, neighbors can't tell the difference). I've noticed some color fading after three months of direct sunlight exposure, despite the UV protection claim.
A pro tip from personal experience: If you're using this indoors as a pee pad, place a tray underneath. Contrary to some reviews, mine definitely has drainage holes (maybe there are manufacturing inconsistencies?), but you don't want any potential leaks staining your floors.
The rubberized backing is both a blessing and curse - it prevents sliding on my concrete balcony beautifully, but makes the rug quite heavy when wet. Folding it into the included carrying bag requires some muscle after cleaning.
For apartment dwellers or those with difficult-to-grow outdoor spaces, this is absolutely worth trying. Just manage your expectations about realism and be prepared for occasional maintenance. After testing several similar products, this one strikes the best balance between functionality and price point.
