As someone who's been keeping discus fish for years, I was thrilled to dive into this book. The author's passion shines through every page, making it not just informative but genuinely enjoyable to read.
What I love most is how comprehensive it is. From tank setup to health issues, it covers everything a beginner or intermediate keeper needs to know. The layout makes it super easy to find specific information when you need it fast - like when you're dealing with an unexpected fish emergency at 10 PM!
The personal stories and journeys shared by the author add a nice touch. It doesn't feel like reading a dry manual, but rather like getting advice from an experienced friend who's made all the mistakes so you don't have to.
While there are some minor spelling errors (the consistent misspelling of 'Corydoras' did make me chuckle), the practical advice more than makes up for it. I've already implemented several suggestions from the book with great results in my own tanks.
My only wish is that it included more about newer discus strains and some alternative medication options for those outside the UK. But even with these small gaps, this has quickly become my go-to reference book that I keep right next to my fish tanks.
If you're serious about discus keeping, this book is worth every penny. Just be prepared for your non-fish-keeping friends to tease you about becoming a 'discus nerd' once you start quoting facts from it at dinner parties!
