Let me start by saying this printer is a beast when it comes to performance. The print quality is absolutely stunning - colors pop, text is crisp, and the 18 ppm color/22 ppm black speeds are no joke. I printed a 20-page brochure for a client meeting, and it finished before I could grab my coffee!
The touchscreen interface is surprisingly intuitive - it feels like using a smartphone. Adjusting settings or scanning multiple pages through the auto feeder is a breeze. Speaking of scanning, the quality is excellent, though I was disappointed to discover it only handles letter-sized documents despite printing legal size.
Now for the elephant in the room: HP's Instant Ink program. The included 3-month trial sounds great until you realize how locked-in you become. I learned the hard way that if your subscription lapses, the printer literally holds your documents hostage - even with plenty of ink remaining! It's an aggressive monetization strategy that left a bad taste in my mouth.
Wireless setup was mostly painless, though I did have to reconnect twice before all my devices recognized the printer. The HP Smart app works well for mobile printing, but be warned - on Macs you can't simply use Command+P; everything must go through their app.
For small businesses printing regularly, this could be worth it (especially if you maximize the Instant Ink plan). But casual users might find better options without HP's subscription handcuffs. The hardware itself is fantastic - it's just buried under some questionable business practices.
