Let me start by saying I was skeptical about a budget-friendly decaf coffee, but Happy Belly's Breakfast Blend completely won me over. The first thing I noticed was the size of the bag - it's HUGE! At 32 oz, this is a steal for the price, especially compared to fancy boutique brands.
The aroma when opening the bag is fantastic - fresh, slightly nutty with a hint of citrus. I brew mine in a drip coffee maker, and even though it's a light roast, the flavor is surprisingly robust for a decaf. It has this smooth, almost caramel-like sweetness that doesn't need much doctoring up (though I do enjoy it with just a splash of milk).
What impressed me most is how well it works for different brewing methods. I've tried it in my French press (steeped for 4 minutes), as cold brew (12 hour steep), and even in my espresso machine (with mixed results - stick to drip or immersion methods). The flavor holds up beautifully across all these methods.
The only minor drawback? If you're used to dark roasts, you might find this a bit mild at first. The solution is simple - just use an extra scoop of grounds per pot. After some experimentation, I found my perfect ratio was about 1.5 tablespoons per 6 oz water instead of the usual 1 tablespoon.
For decaf drinkers or those looking to cut back on caffeine without sacrificing flavor, this is an absolute winner. It's become my daily driver coffee - affordable enough for everyday use but tasty enough that I don't feel like I'm compromising on quality.
