As a kindergarten teacher, I'm always on the lookout for engaging science books that can make complex concepts accessible to little minds. Move It!: Motion, Forces and You has become my go-to resource for teaching physics fundamentals.
The illustrations are vibrant and captivating - my students' eyes light up every time I pull this book out. What I love most is how it breaks down force and motion into bite-sized, relatable examples that 5-year-olds can actually understand.
We've done several of the simple experiments suggested in the book using everyday classroom items. The 'push and pull' demonstration with toy cars was particularly successful - the kids were literally jumping with excitement while learning!
While the content is perfect for ages 3-7, I did notice some activities require minor adaptations for larger groups. The 'balloon rocket' experiment, for instance, works better with small groups rather than whole-class demonstrations.
The bold print and colorful layout make it excellent for read-aloud sessions. My only wish is that it included more diverse representation in the illustrations to better reflect all our classroom learners.
After using this book weekly for two months, I can confidently say it's transformed how we teach physical science concepts. Even my most reluctant learners now excitedly point out examples of force and motion in their daily lives!
