Okay, so I just finished 'The Boyfriend' by Freida McFadden and WOW. This book had me reading under my covers at 3am like a teenager with a flashlight.
The story starts simple enough - girl meets guy, guy seems perfect... too perfect. But then BAM! The twists start coming and they don't stop coming. I thought I had it figured out at least three different times and was wrong every single time.
What I loved most was how McFadden plays with your expectations. Just when you think 'okay this character is definitely the psycho,' she flips the script completely. The dual POV between past and present was genius - it's like watching two trains speeding toward each other knowing there's going to be a crash but not knowing exactly how bad it'll be.
Fair warning though - some of the characters will make you want to throw your book (or Kindle) across the room. Like Tom? Seriously dude? After ALL THAT you still choose her?! And Kevin... ugh don't even get me started on Kevin.
The ending left me equal parts satisfied and wanting more (in a good way). It's that perfect mix where everything makes sense but still leaves you with some questions to chew on. Definitely one of those books where you immediately want to call your friend who's also reading it so you can scream about it together.
If you're into psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the very last page, this is 100% worth the read. Just maybe don't start it right before bed unless you're okay with losing sleep!
