As someone who's constantly juggling multiple devices, this Amazon Basics Smart Plug Power Strip has been a game-changer for my home office setup. The rectangular white design blends seamlessly with my minimalist decor, and the inclusion of both USB-A and USB-C ports means I can charge all my gadgets without hunting for adapters.
The setup was ridiculously easy - just plug in, scan the QR code in the Alexa app, and boom! I was controlling my desk lamp, phone charger, and speaker system with voice commands within minutes. The individual outlet control is perfect when I only want to turn off my printer but keep other devices running.
Where this strip really shines is in bedtime routines. Being able to say 'Alexa, turn off bedroom' instead of fumbling for switches in the dark feels like living in the future. The physical buttons are also handy when I don't feel like talking to my tech.
That said, there are some limitations. The 2-foot cord feels stingy - I had to rearrange furniture to place it where I needed. While the USB-C port supports fast charging, it maxes out at 20W which won't satisfy power users. And yes, it's Alexa-only, so Google Home fans will need to look elsewhere.
The build quality surprised me - it's sturdier than most basic power strips with a satisfying heft. After three months of daily use (including accidentally dropping it once), it's held up remarkably well with no connectivity issues.
Is it perfect? No. But for $35 (especially on sale), you're getting reliable smart functionality without needing a separate hub. Just be realistic about your needs - if you require longer cords or higher wattage USB charging, you might want to keep shopping.
