Let me start by saying the DJI RS 4 Mini is hands-down the most impressive gimbal I've used for my Sony A7IV. The auto axis locks are revolutionary - no more fiddling with manual locks between shots. I can power it on and be ready to film in literally one second, which has saved me countless missed moments during fast-paced shoots.
The intelligent tracking works like magic for solo creators. I recently filmed a hiking vlog where the gimbal kept me perfectly framed even when scrambling over rocks. The Teflon-enhanced balancing makes adjustments buttery smooth - though I did notice some micro jitters when using heavier zoom lenses.
Battery life is phenomenal. I recently shot an entire wedding day (8+ hours) on a single charge. The vertical switch feature is brilliant for Instagram content - takes about 10 seconds to flip orientations seamlessly.
Now for the not-so-great: The app situation is frustrating. Having to download outside Google Play and dealing with frequent crashes really dampens the experience. The touchscreen UI isn't intuitive - basic settings are buried too deep in menus. And DJI's decision not to include a case or phone mount at this price point feels cheap.
The biggest limitation? You can't use Bluetooth and wired connections simultaneously. This means choosing between focus control OR zoom control - a baffling limitation for professional use.
Despite these flaws, when it works, it works beautifully. The footage stabilization is buttery smooth, and the briefcase handle makes low-angle shots effortless. Just know you're buying into some quirks with this otherwise impressive piece of kit.
