Okay, so I finally got my hands on this external Blu-ray drive, and here's the tea ☕.
First Impressions: Super sleek and lightweight! The dual USB-C + USB 3.0 cables are a lifesaver since my laptop only has USB-C ports. Plugged it in, and boom—Windows 11 recognized it instantly. No driver drama!
Speed Test: Transferred a 25GB Blu-ray rip in like 10 mins? Wild. Burned a DVD backup of my vacation videos (yes, I still do that), and it worked flawlessly—except one coaster disc, but that was probably the cheap media’s fault.
Blu-ray Playback: Had to download VLC (free queen 👑) because Windows Media Player choked on the encryption. Once set up, 1080p playback was smooth—though no 4K support as advertised. Region code was set to Europe (Region 2), but a quick Google-fu fixed that.
Annoyances: The cables are SHORT. Like, ‘desktop-users-will-weep’ short. Also, CyberLink’s software ads pop up like a needy ex, but just ignore them.
Verdict: For the price? A solid 8/10. It’s not perfect (looking at you, cable length), but it gets the job done without theatrics.
