Just finished reading 'Inventing Latinos' and wow, it's a game-changer. As someone who loves digging into social issues, this book hit me hard.
The way Gómez breaks down how 'Latino' became a label is mind-blowing. It's not just about heritage—it's a political tool that's been used to box people in. Never thought about it this way before.
What really got me was the part about media stereotypes. Seeing how TV and news shape perceptions of Latino communities made me rethink everything I thought I knew.
Fair warning though—some parts get pretty academic. Had to re-read a few sections to fully grasp them, but it's worth the effort.
Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to understand race in America better. Just maybe keep your highlighter handy!
