Okay, so I finally caved and got the Whynter ice cream maker after months of drooling over homemade gelato pics on Instagram. Let me tell you - this thing is LEGIT.
The no pre-freeze feature? Absolute lifesaver. I made mint chocolate chip on a whim at 10pm (don't judge) and it was ready before my Netflix show ended. The texture was crazy smooth - like proper Italian gelato smooth.
Pro tip: The LCD panel looks fancy but is super simple to use. Just dump in your mix (cooled to room temp works best), press start, and watch the magic happen through the clear lid. Though fair warning - watching it churn is weirdly hypnotic and might make you late for appointments.
Cleanup's easier than my blender! All parts pop off for washing, though that paddle will fight you for every last bit of ice cream (worth it). The stainless steel build makes it look way more expensive than it is - matches my KitchenAid perfectly.
Only gripe? The timer counts down from 60 minutes but mine's usually done in 35-40. Still trying to figure out if that's a feature or just the machine being extra.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who takes their dessert seriously. My freezer's now permanently stocked with experimental flavors (current fave: honey lavender with crushed amaretti cookies).
