As a die-hard Godzilla fan and steelbook collector, unboxing this felt like Christmas morning. The metallic sheen of the case perfectly captures the 90s nostalgia, though mine arrived with a faint scratch on the back – hence the 4-star rating instead of 5.
The 4K transfer makes Godzilla's scales glisten like never before, especially during the iconic Madison Square Garden scene. That said, don't expect massive upgrades over Blu-ray for darker sequences – this is very much a product of its late-90s CGI era.
What surprised me most was the digital copy's seamless integration. Watching Zilla (yes, I call him that) rampage through my iPad during my commute made me appreciate the film's pacing issues less – it's perfect bite-sized monster mayhem on mobile.
Pro tip: The steelbook's interior artwork hides a clever Easter egg – flip the discs out to reveal a glow-in-the-dark atomic breath effect that actually works! Just don't tell my cat how I spent 20 minutes charging it under a lamp.
