Just installed the POWERTEC 71740 magnetic switch box on my Delta Unisaw, and wow – this little box punches above its weight! As someone who's burned through two OEM switches in five years, the $100 price difference had me skeptical, but the heavy-duty metal housing and UL certification won me over.
PROS:
• Drop-in replacement for Delta Unisaw/Dewalt/Ridgid saws (mounted perfectly on my existing bracket)
• Noticeably faster power cutoff than my worn OEM switch – crucial for workshop safety
• Color-coded buttons make operation foolproof even with sawdust-covered gloves
• Includes both power and motor cords – saved me $30+ in extra parts
CONS:
• Instruction manual? What instruction manual? Had to YouTube the wiring (diagram on Amazon listing is postage-stamp sized)
• Included screws were comically short – raided my hardware stash for replacements
• Some plastic components feel cheaper than OEM, but the magnetic starter itself is solid
Real-world test: Running my 3HP cabinet saw through thick maple, the switch handled multiple on/off cycles without hesitation. The satisfying *clunk* of the magnetic engagement is oddly reassuring. For half the price of Delta's replacement, I'll deal with the DIY installation quirks. Just keep your phone handy for wiring reference photos!
