After wearing these Gunnar and Troy Axel Oxfords for a month, I’m convinced they’re a hidden gem in the dress shoe world. The leather uppers feel luxurious, and the brogue detailing adds just the right touch of sophistication without being over-the-top. They’re office-ready but stylish enough for weddings or nights out.
The dual-density footbed is a game-changer. Unlike stiff dress shoes that leave you limping by 3 PM, these have a cushioned gel heel that absorbs shock. The first wear felt slightly firm, but after a few outings, they molded to my feet like gloves. I’d rate comfort an 8/10—better than most department-store brands at this price.
Traction is another win. The rubber pods on the outsole kept me steady on rainy pavements, and the lightweight design meant no dragging fatigue. Note: The leather has a satin sheen (not glossy), which I prefer for a more understated look.
Two quirks: The sizing runs snug—I went up a half size (they don’t offer wide widths). Also, the insoles are removable, which is great for customization, though the included ones are comfy once you adjust to the gel.
For $120–$150, these punch above their weight. They’re not resoleable, but the construction feels durable. If you need versatile, comfortable dress shoes that won’t bankrupt you, these deserve a spot in your closet.
