Okay, so I wasn't expecting much when I picked up this book. Fantasy isn't usually my thing - too many damsels in distress and grimdark plots. But wow, was I wrong!
The protagonist is this 15-year-old girl who's actually SMART and capable? Revolutionary! No tragic backstory, no dead parents (yet, at least - I'm only on book 1), just pure wholesome adventure.
The magic system is so refreshing - flowers floating in the air, butterflies you can hear flapping their wings. It's like someone took all the cozy parts of fantasy and made them sparkle.
And can we talk about how this book cured my reading slump? I read it in my backyard hammock and kept getting distracted because the descriptions made me notice real-life nature more. Who knew books could be therapeutic?
P.S. If you're a parent looking for something to read with your kid, this is perfect. My 8-year-old niece and I now have inside jokes about the pixie characters!
