Just finished this book and wow... it's heavy. Like, emotionally wrecked for days heavy.
The way David describes his abuse is so raw. You can feel his hunger, his fear, his loneliness. It's uncomfortable but necessary to read.
What got me most was how his mom would starve him for days, then make him vomit to check if he ate anything. Who does that to a child?!
Surprisingly well-written though. The pacing keeps you engaged even when you want to look away. Finished it in two sittings because I couldn't stop.
Warning: Not for the faint of heart. But if you can handle it, this story will change how you see resilience and human cruelty.
