Okay, so I just finished The Silent Patient and WOW. I need to talk about this book because my mind is still reeling from that ending!
First off - Alicia Berenson is such an intriguing character. Famous painter, seemingly perfect life... then BAM she shoots her husband and never speaks again? That premise alone had me hooked from page one.
Theo Faber, the psychotherapist trying to 'crack' Alicia's silence, is equally fascinating. At first I thought he was just your typical dedicated doctor, but boy does his character get complicated as the story unfolds.
What I loved most was how Michaelides plays with your expectations. Just when you think you've figured it out, the rug gets pulled from under you. That twist at the end? I literally gasped out loud in my living room.
The writing style is so atmospheric - those diary entries from Alicia give me chills just thinking about them. And the way art is woven throughout the story? Genius.
My only tiny complaint - some side characters felt a bit flat compared to Alicia and Theo. But honestly, I was so invested in the main mystery that I didn't even care.
Finished it in two sittings because I physically couldn't put it down. My husband got annoyed because I kept ignoring him to read 'just one more chapter'.
If you love psychological thrillers that mess with your head, this is a must-read. Just be prepared to lose sleep over it!
